Whether positive or negative, emotions can take a toll on our lives.

Breast cancer survivors will experience a variety of emotional responses to their diagnosis ranging from denial, anger, depression and fear. All of these feelings are normal and expected.

Over time, you will most likely feel like your emotions are less “all over the place.”

You will want to rebuild your emotional health, because if you are positive and happy you will be more likely to do what you need to stay well.

There are several ways to relieve stress that is sometimes associated with having cancer:

  • Exercise: Daily walks can be relieving.
  • Speaking & Sharing: Talking to a therapist, minister, your partner, or a friend about what you are feeling can also be beneficial.
  • Ask your healthcare provider about local counseling or breast cancer support groups in your area. Some groups are even for African American women specifically.
  • You can take part in online chat rooms with other breast cancer survivors.
  • Spiritual Healing: Meditation, spiritual, and religious teachings may help you clear your mind and relax.

*There are 2.5 million breast cancer survivors alive today.

You are not alone!

My emotions were everywhere! I wanted to know why me, why did I have cancer?
